Here are few YouTube images from new Ocean Lava Lanzarote Triathlon; we celebrated for the first time on the 5thof September 2010.
The distance was swim 1.9k, bike 90k and run 21.1k. This is the half of the Ironman distance.
The swim was in Puerto del Carmen, we used 2 big catamarans boats as corner buoys, it was like Hawaii Ironman swim course or even better.
The bike ride was going through the wine area of La Geria, El Golfo and over Femes, where the athlete was cycling up with the steepest hill with more the 22% incline, only 12 people was walking up, the athlete also have the pleasure to ride up over the Timanfaya National park, 60% of the bike course was going through the lava fields.
The run was 3 loops run inside Puerto del Carmen, before the reach the finish line.
Here you see the top of the Femes where the athlete has the steepest climb of the day.

I am very proud of the race as we had excellent volunteers, very good sponsors, exceptional traffic and local police made the road safe and to great day, on the most amazing bike course in the world. Thousand of spectators enjoyed the day and our beautiful finish tower, welcomed the athletes to the finish of this magic Sunday.
The overall Champion Bert Jammaer, Belgium bike the 90K on 2h 29 min with 1600m vertical climb, his speed average was 36.08k pr hour, Bert total finish time was extraordinary 4h 15m 59s, the 2008 and 2009 Ironman Lanzarote Champions performance this Sunday was extraordinary. The female Champion Veerle D´haese also from Belgium finished in 5h 04m 44s, she was very proud when we crowned her as the Queen of Ocean Lava Lanzarote Triathlon.
We had 127 individual finishers and 17 teams of 3 persons, in total 178 athlete. 100 of the participants were coming from outside the island, 43 was foreigners, they all had an exceptional day.
We will have the second Ocean Lava Lanzarote Triathlon on the 8th of October 2011.
It will be on the same date as Ironman Hawaii, we will celebrate our awards evening in a new way with a open air concert, video of the day and it will be in Hawaii style, as we will follow the Kona Hawaii Ironman race live on the big screen by internet.
